The Texas DX Society, founded in 1970, is a non-profit organization of radio amateurs in Houston, Texas who have a primary interest in DX chasing and contest operating on HF, VHF, and UHF. Many of the club's members regularly operate from rare amateur radio locations around the world for the expressed purpose of "putting out a new one" for DXCC credit to their fellow amateurs, or counting as a "new multiplier" for contests held on the bands each year. To see a list of our members' worldwide operating activity, click here. Our repeaters are frequently used for disaster communication, and for public service events like the Chevron Houston Marathon, Buffalo Bayou Regatta Races, and others.
We invite Houston area amateurs to get to know us by checking into our repeaters on 147.360 MHz (100.0 Hz tone access) and 442.000 MHz (103.5 Hz tone access). The Club also maintains a DX Cluster, K5DX, on 144.95 from the Woodlands, Texas. Anyone within about 10 miles of the Woodlands can connect directly. Those who cannot connect directly, or in central Houston can connect to TDXS95 in downtown Houston, and then to K5DX. Our DX cluster can also be reached via the internet with Telnet access at our IP address 75.148.198.113 or URL dxc.tdxs.net (Internet Explorer versions 7 & 8 no longer support telnet without editing the registry). We have our own IRLP link running on the 442.000 repeater, so please jump in and join us from anywhere in the world! Click on IRLP from the menu on the left for node information. We also have EchoLink® on our 442.000 repeater. Click the EchoLink menu tab on the left for more information.
Our club callsign K5DX is in memory of our long-time friend and fellow club member Clarence E. Sharp who became a SK in September 2001. "Sharp" was a world famous DXer and contester, and an "Elmer" to all who needed one. Our club grew and flourished under his leadership and guidance for many years, and his operating habits were an example for all operators to follow.
Our organization gets together in Houston, Texas on the second Thursday evening of each month for our club meetings. We usually meet at the Tracy Gee Center on the west side of Houston, and frequently have a pre-meeting dinner location nearby. Check the marquee above for program info, time and location announcements, check the mail reflector, or current Bullsheet newsletter. If you're in the area, plan to join us!
Membership in the TDXS is an honor which is available by member nomination only, but is open to all radio amateurs who show an interest in club membership and activities. If you are interested in membership in the TDXS please ask any TDXS member to assist you in obtaining a copy of our membership nomination form which will outline the qualities considered by the organization when an amateur is presented before the TDXS body for membership consideration. We look forward to meeting you soon! CUL
